Lets face facts!

Kitchen appliances in 2008 are made using machinery and materials that impact on the environment. Using and disposing of these appliances also has an impact. There is no escaping that fact. The key at present is to minimise this impact through a variety of means, so that we can all play a role together.

Blanco works hard to reduce the impact. Some things are large and significant, and then there are the many smaller projects. Let’s touch on just a couple of points regarding environmental impact.

RoHs

(Restriction of Hazardous Substances) is a directive by the European Union which took effect July 1st, 2006 to reduce the use of hazardous substances in production. RoHS is often referred to as the lead-free directive, but it restricts the use of the 6 substances: Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Hexavalent chromium, Polbrominated biphenyls (PBB) and Polybrominated diphenyl (PBDE).

This directive restricts the use of the 6 hazardous materials in the manufacture of various types of electronic and electrical equipment used in household appliances. Blanco’s manufacturing partners in Europe meet the requirements of the RoHS directive to ensure Blanco appliances meet the latest environment guidelines and standards.  

WELS 

(Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards) is an Australian government scheme to ensure all water using products are registered, rated and labelled according to the requirements of the WELS standard. This allows all Australians to compare the water efficiency of different products. The more stars the better. As well as a star rating, the labels also show a water consumption or water flow figure.

Blanco’s range of Platinum and Contemporary tapware are WELS rated with 3 to 5 stars depending on the water flow ratings and the type of tap. Additionally, all Blanco Dishwashers and Front Load Washers are WELS rated with most achieving 4 star water ratings. We don’t have all the answers, but we are trying to make a difference and we intend on pursuing product development that continues this path for you, us and the world.
